Exemplary Reading Committee

“Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives – choice, not chance, determines your destiny.” ― Aristotle

Dawn Simpson leads the Exemplary Reading Committee. The North Carolina Reading Association, using guidelines from IRA, seeks to recognize outstanding reading programs at all grade levels (elementary, middle, high school) in public, parochial, private, and charter schools.  NCRA’s Exemplary Reading Program Committee will review all applications, visit selected schools, and recommend an outstanding program to receive the Exemplary Reading Award, given by IRA at its annual convention.

The winning school(s) from North Carolina will be announced at the NCRA annual conference, highlighted on the NCRA website, and recognized in NCRA’s news reports. The Exemplary Reading Program Committee will further honor the school by hanging a banner outside the school to announce its achievement. NCRA will cover the member registration fee for a school representative to attend IRA’s annual convention and receive recognition at the awards ceremony.

The NCRA’s and IRA’s exemplary reading award calls the public’s attention to outstanding reading/language arts programs.  For more information:
