NCRA President Lauren Johnson’s Message
Power-Up Your Literate Mind
The North Carolina Reading Association (NCRA) is a non-profit organization founded by and comprised of educators and citizens who have a passion for providing literacy to all.
As your President, I am dedicated to furthering the mission and goals of this organization and supporting all local councils and new chapters across the state. As an educator for over 12 years, I believe collaboration yields continued professional growth and happiness in this profession. I have been a member of NCRA and our affiliate, the International Literacy Association, for the majority of career. This has enabled me to establish relationships and continue my own professional learning alongside literacy leaders throughout this great state and country.
As I begin this journey as your NCRA President, I cannot wait to learn and build literacy awareness with each and every one of you. This organization is built on learning, mentoring, supporting, encouraging, and continuing the growth of educators. It seems as if the education focus has been shifted to matters that take the spotlight away from what is most important—our students and YOU! So POWER-UP! Recharge your mind, rediscover your love of literacy, and refocus your energy. Tell your story to Show Your Strength, uplift others, and transform lives. Let’s continue building the #ageofliteracy together.
Please consider your membership as both an opportunity and a responsibility—an opportunity to serve as a literacy leader in your community and a responsibility to encourage others to join NCRA and advance our mission of empowerment through literacy for all.
